Two Liverpool teams entered the annual MQL Jubilee Buzzer Tournament on Saturday 21 February at The Parade in Hoylake. 25 teams from Merseyside and from all across the UK played in an all day competition based upon TV's University Challenge. Players included Chasers, Eggheads, former Brains of Britain and the current BBC Mastermind.
Both Klugworms (Joan Peacock, Gill Willett, Rob Cruise and Clive Leech) and Liverpool (Angela Doyle, Chris Quinn, James Macgregor, Nathan Pace and Morgan Bush) acquitted themselves well, with Liverpool reaching the Cup semi-finals only to lose to the eventual champions, Yorkshire.
Danny Grimes and John Coventry 'walked their socks off' throughout the day collecting results, distributing questions and keeping the tournament on schedule.
