Quiz Liverpool

Liverpool Quiz League is organising the 2017 Riley Cup Competition.

There are 39 teams competing for the Ted Riley Cup this year, all correspondence will be by email (except for the questions!)

The draw has been made for the first three rounds, they will be played on 10th and 24th April 2017 and 8th May, all games in these rounds will commence at 9pm.  Fixtures are in the calendar and on the Riley Cup page.

The quarter finals, semi-finals and final will commence at 8.00pm on 15th May 2017, at Aigburth People’s Hall, L17 0DJ. The draw taking place on the night.

Scoring and timing
As in previous years we will adopt the following rule for scoring and timing;
Each individual player shall be allowed to attempt to answer their own question for two points.
If they answer incorrectly, it can be attempted for one point by another member of their own team.
If this attempt is wrong, it then passes over to the opposition for one point.
Timing; 10 seconds for your own question, 5 seconds for the other team members to answer and five seconds for the opposition to answer.

Results
The winning team should send them to me, immediately after the game (so that I have them by 10pm on the night of the game), by text to 07758 464 110 (leaving the names and scores for each team) or email pauldavitt@virginmedia.com. As there is a short time between games I would appreciate that you comply with this request, as there is very little time to send out the next set of questions.

Protests
In the event of a protest, team captains should advise me on the Monday night, then confer on the Tuesday and advise me by 8pm of the result of their consultation, by phone or email. If the team captains fail to agree; Paul Davitt, Jim Eccleson, Keith Clare and Angela Doyle will adjudicate by noon on the Wednesday.

The draw for the heats of the MQL MIMIR competition have been made and are shown below. The matches will be played on Wednesday 22 March, beginning at 8pm at New Brighton Cricket Club, Mortuary Lane, Wallasey.

The final will be held at the MQL Presentation Night on Wed 10th May 2017 at a Warrington venue.

A football themed quiz is to be held at the Ship and Mitre, Dale Street, Liverpool on Thursday 9th March 2017.

The quiz starts at 7.30pm, with refreshments at about 9pm.  All quizzers are welcome, and if you would like more details, please email Steve Lomas at steve.lomas1@btinternet.com

As all of the heats in the different leagues have now taken place, we can now show the Liverpool Final.

 

This year's MIMIR (Individual) competition will be held at Aigburth People's Hall on 1st February, with registration starting at 8pm.  The winner on the night will receive the Arthur Evans Trophy, and the top 8 players will be invited to take part in the MQL Mimir competition, the heats of which will take place on 22nd March 2017 at a Wirral venue.

Timings on the night are expected to be as follows:

• 8.00pm Registration
• 8.15pm Preliminary Rounds
• 9.30pm Refreshments
• 10.00pm Final

Pre-registration is not necessary, but it will help with the catering if you could inform Paul Davitt of your intentions by 30th Jan.

Barbara's sister Catherine has asked us to pass on the following message : Thank you for all your kindness and expressions of sympathy on the loss of Barbara. She had a great sendoff last Friday and it It was lovely to see so many of you there. Best wishes, Catherine

The annual Charity Quiz will be held at Christ the King Parish Club on January 27th at 7.30pm.

Teams can have a maximum of four players and it will cost £7.50 per head, which includes a supper of scouse. There will also be the customary raffle.

Please contact Dave Cotson (davecotson@hotmail.com) to give him an idea of numbers, and to let him know if anybody would like the non-scouse supper alternative. This is always a very pleasant evening, with a superb quiz, and is a great opportunity to quiz socially and help raise money for charity.

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Barbara Rouse, long-serving member and captain of Monstrous Regiment quiz team.  Barbara will be much missed by all who have enjoyed her company and contribution to the quiz league over the years.

Barbara's funeral service will take place at the Rosemary Chapel at Springwood Crematorium (Springwood Avenue, Liverpool, L25 7UN) at 10.00 am on Friday 6th January. This will be followed by her burial in the nearby woodland plot in Allerton Cemetery at 11.00 am and a gathering at Allerton Hall (The Pub in the Park - also L25 7UN) straight after at 11.30.
