LIVERPOOL MIMIR HEATS

 

This year's Mimir heats take place on Wednesday 7th February at Aigburth People's Hall, Aigburth Vale, Liverpool L17 4LS.  Registration is at 8pm.

 

This is a competition open to all members of the Liverpool Quiz League, the Winner will receive the Arthur Evans Trophy and will hold the title for a year. The 2017 winner of the Trophy was Mark Kerr, of Rainhill Victoria.

 

The Competition and what happens;

Four players play in each heat. Each heat consists of five rounds of three questions to each player.  Usually the winning two go on the next round, ending in a final of four players. The precise make up of the heats all depends on how many players take part.

The top eight players are invited to go forward to the Merseyside heats on 21st March 2018 at a Warrington venue.

  

Registration

Registration is not essential, however, if you can give us some indication of names / numbers of contestants or helpers, from your team by email, phone or text Frances Mason, it will be a great help planning the catering and organising the heats and set up at the venue.

 

Asking questions, Scoring and Timekeeping

Help with questions, scoring and bonus recording is always needed. If you don’t want to take part in the competition, but are willing to help, please come along and support the event. Please let me know if you are able to help.

ANDY WALSH MEMORIAL QUIZ

The Andy Walsh Memorial Quiz took place at Christ The King parish centre last Friday.  This is the Liverpool Quiz League's annual charity table quiz and was attended by over 50 people.

The amateur competition was won by a team from Andy's family while the overall winners, in a close contest, were Bishop Eton. [Images in Gallery]

The evening raised over £350 for the Dewode project that provides medical and educational facilities for an area in Northern Uganda.

President's Trophy

Many congratulations to the Liverpool team who, with 2 games still to go, have won the 2017-18 President's Trophy.  This competition between representative sides from the top division in each of the 5 constituent leagues was last won by Liverpool in 2005-06.  The team of Mark Kerr (Rainhill Victoria), Angela Doyle (Bishop Eton), Chris Quinn (Rainhill Victoria) and Rod Moore (Kluggers) are unbeaten in their 6 games.  Well done all!

Quizzing Grand Prix - Sat 3rd Feb

Cross Keys, Earle Street

A Quizzing Grand Prix event will be held on Saturday 3rd Feb 2018 at the Cross Keys Pub, 13 Earle Street, Liverpool L3 9NS, starting at 11.00am

Full details of the event, with a sign-up page, can be found at the Quizzing Website. All registrations must be done throught this site as there are limited spaces available.

The cost for a full day's quizzing is £12.50 (half price for full time students) and food will be available at the venue on the day, but is not included in the price.

David Ormesher - Funeral Arrangements

David Ormesher's funeral will take place at Springwood Crematorium at 1.30pm on Thursday 4th January.

Sad News - David Ormesher

It is our said duty to inform the members of the Liverpool Quiz Leagues that David Ormesher of Earles died on Wednesday 20th December.  Our thoughts go out to his friends and family at this sad time.

Funeral details will be announced as soon as we have them.

Quiz in the North

Saturday 16th December

A full day's convivial quizzing will be taking place next Saturday, 16th December, at The Cross Keys pub in Earle Street, Liverpool (just off Old Hall Street), beginning at 11.00am and running through until about 5.00pm.

There will be three main quizzes - an Individual written quiz, a team quiz and a special quiz (details to follow).

Amongst the quizzers attending will be members of the Eggheads and Chasers and you could play with them in the team quiz where the teams are drawn at random from all of the entrants.

The cost for the day's quality quizzing is just £5 per head (pay at the door), and food is available in the pub, or there are plenty of restaurants, cafes and sandwich shops within a short walk of the venue.

New Venue - Palmy Army

Please not that with immediate effect Palmy Army will be playing their home matches at The Rocket on Bowring Park Road, at the end of the M62.  Full details of the address can be found on the team page here:

Please note that the venue's car park can only be accessed from the westbound part of Bowring Park Road.  If approaching from Queen's Drive (either direction) or Edge Lane, take Rocky Lane (near CTK Club) and access Bowring Park Roadnear Broadgreen Station.

Free Harry Potter Quiz and Exhibition

To celebrate the launch of ‘Harry Potter: A History of Magic’ exhibition, Liverpool Central Library will be the venue for an evening of magic and a quiz hosted by the fabulous Barrington Powell. Prepare to be amazed by the Marvellous Magician of Infinite Jest.

Do you know your Wampus Cat from your Bowtruckle?  Could you pick Hermione’s wand out of a line-up? Join us and host Barrington Powell, armed with questions from the experts at Pottermore, at our quiz night. Test your knowledge of J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, see how you fare against our Curator’s Curious Conundrum and win some brilliant prizes.

Teams can have a maximum of six members, and everyone needs a ticket. Suggested donation on the night for refreshements and the show is £8 each iperson include bruchetta, 2 glasses of wine of wine or soft drinks and a preview of the exhibition. Please note the quiz and magical content is suitable for supervised teens and adults only and is not suitable for young children under 12

Wirral Pairs Competition 2017

The Wirral Quiz League held their annual presentation evening and pairs competition on Sunday 24th September at Thingwall Recreation Centre.

Some members of the Liverpool League took up the open invitation to take part in the Pairs competition.  Congratulations to Roy Moss (Palmy Army) and Chris Quinn (Rainhill Victoria) who were drawn together and were the eventual winners.  

Thanks to our friends in the Wirral League for a most enjoyable evening.
