Quiz Liverpool

19 teams took part in the Big Liverpool Pub Quiz at St Michael's Irish Centre on Sunday 15th April 2016.  In an exciting competition written and presented by Dave Bill of Redtooth Quizzes, a tiebreak was needed to separate the top two teams. A team form the Liverpool Echo finally triumphed to take the £80 top prize and the coveted BLPQ trophy.

The winning team can be seen here with James McGregor, Liverpool Quiz League vice-Chairman, who organised the whole evening. 

TV Quizzers Jenny Ryan, Dave Rainford and Pat Gibson, as well as several members of the Liverpool Quiz League, helped out different teams in each round.

Our evening will begin with the draw for the Pairs Competition.

 

The questions are set this year by last year’s winners; Peter Dixon and Mark Kerr.

 

The first part of the Pairs competition is 40 questions, each pair writes that answers on their answer sheet, that is then marked with the top six pairs going through to a 15 to 1 style knock out and then the top three carry on until the winners remain.

 

We will then have refreshments followed by

We hope that as many Liverpool teams and Wirral Teams who took part in the Riley Cup, or members of your team will join us to celebrate our 2016 season.

 

After some very close quarter and semi-final matches, the final of 2016's Ted Riley cup was played between Oxton Cons of Wirral Division 1 and CTK Wanderers of Liverpool Division 2.  Oxton Cons carried a handicap of 4 points, while CTK were slightly better off with a handicap of 18.  You can watch the whole of the match below, or scroll down a bit to see the result.

By the end of round 6 the scores were very close and it looked like Oxton were on course to overhaul the deficit, but CTK won the final two rounds to take the trophy, winning 46-36.

The annual CTK Charity Quiz will take place on Friday February 19th with a 7.45pm start.  Entry costs £7.50 per head, including supper.  It's a table quiz, and always a very enjoyable evening. There are prizes for winning teams (including one for "amateur" teams not made up of LQL players) and a raffle.  Email davecotson@hotmail.com to give an idea of numbers (and to request the non-scouse supper option).
 

Mersey Summer Quiz League starts next Monday 8th June, 8.00 pm at Aigburth People's Hall. You are most welcome to come along and join in.

At a very well attended pairs competition and presentation evening, 27 randomly drawn pairs took part in the annual pairs competition.  As is usual, the questions were set by last year's winners, John Watson of Bishop Eaton and Chris Quinn of Rainhill Victoria.

After a close competition, Rod Moore (Kluggers) and Joe Raven (Earles) finished in third position, with Clive Leach (Exiles) and James McGregor (Palmy Army) in second place.  The winners were Mark Kerr (Rainhill Victoria) and Peter Dixon (Earles)

Saturday, June 20th 2015 at 11:00am at the Malleable Club, 345 Norton Road, Stockton-on-Tees, TS20 2PH

A full day of quizzing with individual, buzzer and team quizzes.

In the morning there will be an individual written quiz, which will feature a number of different genres with prizes available for the overall winners and genre winners.

In the afternoon Dave Bill is going to run an interactive buzzer quiz, which are always lots of fun.

This will be followed by a team quiz. Teams will be based on the results of the individual quiz results so everyone will have a chance of winning and you'll have the chance to meet new quiz friends. 

The entrance fee for the full day of quizzing will be just £5, and all the money left over after hopefully minimal costs will be used as prize money for the various quizzes.
